Castle Howard is over 1000 acres. The driveway is 5 miles long. The 'pond' you see is actually flooded grounds and we had to take a detour to get in
The house has been the family home to the Howards for over 300 years and took 100 years to build
Entrance to the grounds, it's the old stable entrance
You walk about 1/3 of mile to get to the house
The East Wing
Statue in the Boar Garden
Back of the West Wing
Side of East Wing. The two wings were built over 100 yrs apart and you can see the style differences
No cameras were allowed inside, but we snuck a pic of Steve re-enacting a painting in the hall.
Peacocks roam the grounds
They seem to like the attention!
...and love the grain you can buy for them
They are domesticated...and almost friendly
Betsy feeding one
Hand, ground, whatever....it's food
Not sure what is rarer, the Peacock or a photo of Jane...
Mindy getting into the act

Mindy off to visit the Temple of the Four Winds
Close up of the Temple
Rear of the house
Atlas Fountain
The next few shots will .....
...give you an idea of.....
...the size of the house and gardens
Mindy still walking to the Temple
Finally, at the Temple of the Four Winds
View from near the lake
We are making plans to return for the opening
