France, August 2003

We flew over to celebrate the 40th Wedding Anniversary of Jane's parents, Ann and Pete Holland, with her brother Gordon, his wife Cherith, and her sister, Bridget. .
Luckily, we missed the heat wave that swept over Europe.

Jane's parents house, and the Gite we stayed in. The third floor of their house has two nice Gite's, (vacation apartments)
that they rent if you are interested in visiting Southern France. The one we were in had two bedrooms, and the other
gite has one large king. Both have a private patio.

Faugeres, the town Jane's parents live in.
The Orb, is a large nearby river that runs through a valley (Gorges d'Orb).

Jane's parents have two large gardens nearby their house, called allotments,, and here is one of them.

Beziers, a nearby Mediterranean town

We went on some awesome wine tasting trips. Our favorties were Ollier-Taileffer and Raymond Roque. Nearly all the local wine is sold within that region, and nothing is exported.
This is some of the best wine in the world and only a few people get to enjoy it!

Part of the anniversary celebration was a Sunday lunch at a world-class French restaurant, called Auberge de Combes.
It was one of the best meals we have ever had, and we took pictures of all the plating presentations to share our experience with you
We took some cool pictures of the fog rolling in off the mountains as well.

One of our day-trips was around the area, Languedoc-Roussillion. Faugeres is classified with an AOC, and is part of this famous wine making region, and we stumbled across a very old abbey that was being restored.

Another of our day-trips was to Carcasonne, known as the Walled City. It is an ancient fortress that was once part of Spain, and still a working town.

We left southern france to visit Paris We only had a short time to spend in this wonderful city, but we were able to visit Versailles , the palace King Louis XIV built, and
Notre Dame . The Cathedral is stunning, and is actually built on an island in the middle of the Seine river. The gargoyles are as cool as anything we have seen!
