"I don't see much sense in that," said Rabbit.
"No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it.

San Francisco November 2010

Our vacation planning consisted of 'Where can we get a free ticket using some frequent flier miles to, and not rent a car'? San Francisco made the short list of cheap vacations, and we had lots of warm weather and sunshine for our visit.

We stayed downtown at the Petite Auberge a small boutique B&B about a block away from Chinatown. On our first day in the city we visited Chinatown, the wharf district, ("The Embarcadero" and Fishermans Wharf) and Pier 39, famous for the Sea Lions that live there. We also took a boat cruise around the harbor and Alcatraz Island.

For our second day we took the ferry over to Alcatraz for a visit to the National Park. The views were incredible, both from the boat and the island. We also did the tourist thing and rode the "Powell Hyde" Cable Car up the hill from the dock area to our B&B. This line arguably has the best views, but also the largest crowds, as we waited 40 minutes to get on. We went past Lombard St, the 'crookest road in the world'. Dinner at "New Delhi", an Indian restaurant, completed a fantastic day.

We took one of the open top bus tours as well, and got a great tour of the city. It was a 'hop on/pff bus, so we got a chance to explore the city a bit more as well. One of the loops was across the bay over the Golden gate bridge and back.

On our last day, we had intended on exploring in Golden Gate park, but we ended up spending the whole day at the California Academy of Sciences an a amazing interactive museum located within the park itself. One of the highlights was the winding staircase that features a living Rain Forest biosphere. We had an incredible meal at Colibri, an award winning Mexican eatery to finish the day.
