I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, and long words Bother me.

France, November 2007

Our 3rd trip to France to visit the area and Jane's parents. You can see our first trip here, (don't ask what happened to our pictures from our trip in 2005).
We got a late start due to Hurricane Noel, but better to fly on a nice day, a day later, right? This time we flew direct to Montpellier, about an hour and a half from Faugeres rather than take the train from Paris. This turned out to be fortunate as there was a rail strike that shut down the country.

Day 1 & 2 - After arrival, we relaxed a bit (read long lunch involving some local wine) and then went to Sergio's, a great pizzeria in Herepian. On our 2nd day, we spent the day in Beziers and went to the Canal du Midi locks and were delighted to see a few canal boats passing thru, too cool. We also spent some time on the coast on the beach at Les Plage and Cap'd Agde

Day 3 - We left early for market day in Clermount, via Neffies and Roujan. We drove over to Pont-de-Diablo and drove thru the Gorges de l'Herault

Day 4 - We drove thru the Cirque de Mourieze, and then Cirque de Navacelles, both which were amazing. We enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch on the edge of the valley, and then back to Faugeres via Gorge du Vis

Day 5 - We drove up Gorge-du-Tarn with Pete & Anne and had a roadside picnic. We visited St. Chelley, the caves at Aven Armand, a long day but incredible scenery.

Day 6 & 7 - On the weekend we spent Saturday hiking in the salt marsh near Sete and Agde. On Sunday we went to Auberge des Combes, our favorite restaraunt in the entire world for a long Sunday lunch, French-style, good food, great, wine, and wonderful conversation.

Day 8 - We have spent time in the Languedoc and Paris, and decided to spend a few days in Provence. We went back to Sete, a really cool port town and wandered around enjoying the morning, and then drove the Camargue National Park, the largest delta in France. It's primarily a salt marsh, but very beautiful. We drove to Arles and spent the night on the town.

Day 9 - We spent a very chilly morning wandering around in Arles, a Roman town, and then visited the Pont-du-Gard, a Roman Aqueduct built 2000 years ago.

Day 10 - Leaving early for some hiking in the mountains, we returned to get rain gear. Good thing, higher up it was snowing and windy, but the views were awesome. We managed to visit one of our favorite vineyards, Mas des Capitelles. you can see the vineyards from Pete & Anne's house, and we picked up some wine to take home.

Day 11 - More driving/walking in the mountains....too bad it meant more snow as well!
